The basic elements of gravity conveyors are:

• rollers and side profiles
• brake rollers
• separator
• loading and unloading part

The movement of goods on gravity roller conveyors occurs, as the name suggests, under the influence of gravity. Gravity roller conveyors can be installed in pallet racks or on their own support legs based directly on the floor. The main advantages of using gravity conveyors are: efficient and orderly flow of goods according to the FIFO (first in - first out) principle; space saving (significant limitation of the space for forklift paths); reducing the need for labour; facilitating the picking of goods; facilitating the automation of warehouse processes; reliability and ease of use, energy savings (no conveyor drives, less space for heating / cooling and lighting, fewer trips by forklifts). The recommended inclination of the gravity racks is from 3.75% to 4.25%. The proper functioning of the gravity conveyor is based on the balance between the pulling forces of  the gravity and the braking forces (rolling resistance and braking from the braking rollers). Therefore, the proper functioning of the gravity conveyor is only possible for undamaged pallets. Pallet support boards must be straight, of adequate strength and hardness; nails, etc. must not protrude. The necessary length of the gravity rack is calculated according to the formula: number of pallets x length of one pallet + 400 mm. Gravity racks are delivered in assembled segments with a maximum length of 2500 mm.

 

 

Pallet-Flow LIFO principle

With the LIFO principle (Last In, First Out) or Push-Back storage, the most recently stocked goods are removed first. They are loaded and removed from the same side.
